Max & Me Mirooloo Road Riesling Eden Valley 2020 from Woodcarvers Vineyard in the Barossa’s beautiful high country. Vintage 2020 is made without finings and is Vegan friendly. A single vineyard Riesling by Philip Lehmann.
Max & Me 2020 ‘Mirooloo Road’ is from grapes grown by Michael Mason on his Flaxman Valley vineyard. The site (on Mirooloo Road) is cool, with a southerly aspect, and natural yield restraint occurs due to the limited fertility and soil-depth of the quartz and mica schist with shallow underlain sandstone bedrock.
Pick date: 24/02/2020. Vintage 2020 was again preceded by a hot spring and summer, with very low reserves in water storages. But then, timed to perfection, an inch of rain fell in the 1st of Feb which gave the vines all of the reserves they needed to finish off the ripening process. The remainder of the ripening period was perfect really, cool and dry, and the grapes produced beautiful flavours and held their natural acidity. After harvesting in the cool of night, the juice was cool-fermented through to dryness, with savoury minerality complementary to the naturally fragrant lime-citrus characteristics of the Riesling.
