Our estate Shiraz and our estate Syrah are included in this category.
On the northern slopes of Keynes Hill, in the Eden Valley wine region, we grow the grapes for both of these wines on our Boongarrie Estate vineyard.
The Shiraz is a particularly ageworthy wine, made from our favorite vineyard block. This is the ‘House Block’, which is underlain by ironstone and has rich red soil. Grapes are picked at their first peak of ripeness with a destemming harvester during the cool night. As well as being fermented in small open grape bins, the Shiraz is aged in a mixture of new and old fine-grained 3-year French oak barrels.
Syrah is also made from 100% estate Shiraz grapes, but is hand harvested a little earlier and fermented with whole bunches for spice and fragrance. Large-format, old French oak barrels are exclusively used for maturation. Vintages of Syrah can be found here.
